Flow velocity influences on oilfield hoses

With the rapid development of drilling technology, high performance API 7K rated rotary/drilling hose assembly which far exceeds the specification is provided to meet with stringent working conditions. For some oil rigs, the flow rate of mud has improved a lot and fluid turbulence of the fluid increases at the same time. Excessive turbulence will create heat, vibration and erosive friction, shortening the hose's life expectancy significantly. To minimize the damage from high flow rates, fluid velocity should be kept less than 30 feet per second.

Oilfield hoses including cement hose, Kelly hose, drilling/rotary hose often work under super high pressures. Once the hose fails, it will cause catastrophic damage to workers' health and property. To avoid costly and frequent replacements and increase downtime, avoid the high velocity area (in red color) in this table.
